Transmission Specialist in Nags Head, NC
A transmission is one of the most complicated pieces of equipment your vehicle needs in order to drive. It is also one of the most expensive things to replace, so it’s important to keep up with fluid levels and changes. Also, make sure you stop your vehicle completely before shifting from park, reverse, or drive. And always keep your brake engaged when shifting out of the park position.
TIPS TO MAKING YOUR TRANSMISSION LAST LONGER
If you do not keep up with your fluid levels in your transmission it is bound to have issues. Here are some tricks to keep your transmission running smoothly, so it lasts longer:
- Check your transmission fluid regularly
- Stop riding your brakes
- Shift gears after a full stop
- Make sure to get your car serviced on a regular basis
- If you notice transmission issues - strange burning smells, odd sounds, grinding gears, leaking or discolored fluid, etc. - don't ignore it, bring it in to fix it immediately
Transmission Repair, Rebuild, or Replace
Typically when repairing a transmission, only one specific part of the transmission is fixed. Obviously, going this route is significantly less expensive than rebuilding or replacing your transmission. Depending on how extensive the damage is, repairing your transmission might not be an option.
When rebuilding a transmission, the entire transmission is disassembled and inspected to determine if there are any damaged, worn, or failed parts. After a very detailed inspection, the parts with issues are replaced and the transmission is reassembled and placed back into your vehicle. Because rebuilding a transmission is different per vehicle, a transmission specialist is required.
If we are unable to repair or rebuild your transmission, replacing it is the final option. Our team will find the right transmission to fit the specifications of your vehicle - manual or automatic - and remove the failed transmission with a new one.
